I'm Lichen This Hubei Turquoise Ring

I can't get enough of lichen right now and I had to see if I could recreate it in a sterling silver and Hubei Turquoise ring.  I've been stopping during lots of cross country skiing outings to just stand and look and appreciate it.  So delicate, and oh so tough.

Did you know that lichens are a colony of algae and bacteria living amongst multiple fungi species?

They are also great indicators of air quality, growing the best where air quality is good.  They always stick out to me during the winter - they seem to be some of the only green things left when the woods are blanketed in snow.

This ring has been hand pierced and sawn from multiple sheets of sterling silver.  It's 4 layers deep.  I wanted it to feel like a little symbiotic colony on your finger.  And this piece of Hubei Turquoise is gorgeous!  This stone is what started the idea for this ring - doesn't it look like a lichen colony on a tree trunk?!
